Riverside County District Attorney Michael Hestrin Endorses General Roth for State Senate

Momentous Endorsement comes early in 31st Senate District Race

(Riverside, CA) -- In a momentous development in the race for the 31st Senate District, Senator Richard D. Roth’s re-election campaign announced today that Riverside County District Attorney Michael Hestrin has endorsed General Roth for State Senate.

Riverside County District Attorney Michael Hestrin said: “Like me, General Richard Roth believes in public service. He is committed to providing those of us in public safety with the resources we need to combat crime and keep our schools, neighborhoods and communities safe. I proudly support Richard Roth for State Senate.”

Hestrin was born in the Coachella Valley and received his Juris Doctorate and a master’s degree in Latin American studies from Stanford University in 1997. Upon finishing his studies, Hestrin returned to Riverside County to serve as a volunteer law clerk with the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, and subsequently as Deputy District Attorney for then-District Attorney Grover Trask. In June 2014, Hestrin was elected Riverside County District Attorney.

“It is truly an honor to receive the endorsement of District Attorney Michael Hestrin,” said Senator Roth. “Keeping Riverside County safe and ensuring law enforcement has the tools it needs to protect our families, children and communities will always be one of my highest priorities and greatest responsibilities in the State Senate. I am looking forward to working with DA Hestrin as we work to make Riverside County an even safer place to call home.”

As an award-winning prosecutor who was named Statewide Prosecutor of the Year by the California District Attorney Investigators Association in 2009 and California’s Outstanding Prosecutor by the California District Attorneys Association in 2010, Hestrin has completed more than 100 jury trials, and prosecuted those who prey on children as Trial Team Leader for the DA’s Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit. For most of his last 10 years with the DA’s Office prior to being elected District Attorney, Hestrin was assigned to the Homicide Unit where he conducted more than 30 murder trials including seven successful death penalty cases.

Hestrin joins Riverside County Supervisor John Tavaglione and Superintendent of Schools Kenneth M. Young in throwing his early support behind Senator Roth’s re-election campaign. In their endorsements, Supervisor Tavaglione praised General Roth’s commitment to saving Riverside County’s four newest cities and delivering critical funding for the UC Riverside School of Medicine, and Superintendent Young lauded General Roth as “education’s greatest ally.”
