Mayor Bailey praises General Roth's leadership in securing funding for veterans' housing
(Riverside, CA) -- Momentum to re-elect Senator Richard D. Roth (D-Riverside) continues to build with Riverside Mayor William R. "Rusty" Bailey endorsing General Roth today, the latest in a growing, bipartisan list of public safety, education and community leaders who have thrown their early support behind General Roth.
"I am proud to endorse General Roth for re-election to the State Senate," said Riverside Mayor Rusty Bailey. "As a lifelong Riverside resident, General Roth understands our communities and Inland Southern California. He has delivered critical funding to improve the lives of our students and families."
A Riverside native who was born in the City of Riverside, Mayor Bailey's family came to Riverside in 1914 and has a long history of service to the community. In addition to applauding Senator Roth's proven commitment to the 31st Senate District's students and families, Mayor Bailey went on to praise Roth's accomplishments on behalf of Riverside County's veterans:
"In the State Senate, General Roth has been a strong advocate for our veterans. He co-authored the Veterans Housing Bond which has brought $12 million to Riverside County to provide housing for veterans," said Mayor Bailey. "General Roth has fought to ensure veterans have access to job training, education and small business resources."
Graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1994, Bailey served as a helicopter pilot, platoon leader and Company Executive Officer in the U.S. Army. He holds a Master of Public Policy degree from the University of California at Los Angeles and received a degree in political science from West Point.
Bailey was elected the 17th Mayor of Riverside in 2012, succeeding then-Mayor Ronald O. Loveridge who retired after a 33-year career in elected public service. Loveridge has also endorsed Senator Roth's re-election campaign.
"I thank Mayor Bailey for his strong support of my campaign," said Senator Roth. "I am looking forward to working with Mayor Bailey to deliver even more for our communities, especially for our veterans. We must work to ensure the American Dream is a reality for those who fought to protect it, and I will continue to be our region's strongest advocate in the state Senate for veterans and their families."
The momentum to re-elect Senator Roth has been building steadily over recent weeks, with local leaders coming out in support early and lauding Senator Roth's bipartisan approach and firm commitment to Inland Southern California's children, families and veterans.
Mayor Bailey joins a bipartisan group of local leaders to endorse Senator Roth's re-election campaign, including Riverside City Councilmembers Chris Mac Arthur, Mike Gardner and Jim Perry. Last week, Riverside County Sheriff Stan Sniff praised General Roth as a "true champion for public safety," and Riverside County Superintendent of Schools Kenneth M. Young called General Roth "education's greatest ally."
