Loveridge "wholeheartedly supports" Senator Roth for re-election
(Riverside, CA) -- Senator Richard D. Roth's campaign announced today that former Riverside Mayor Ronald O. Loveridge has endorsed General Roth for re-election to the State Senate.
"I wholeheartedly support the re-election of Richard Roth to the State Senate," said former Riverside Mayor Ronald O. Loveridge. "Senator Roth has served our community and country for over 30 years, and is the leader that this region needs to improve healthcare, create jobs and improve education. We need Senator Roth to continue his effective fight for all of us in Sacramento."
When he left the Mayor's Office in 2012, Loveridge ended what had been a 33-year career in elected public service, and he had become an esteemed regional, state and national leader. In addition to his transformative role in the development of the City of Riverside and Inland Southern California, Loveridge was an active member of the Executive Committee and Board of the National League of Cities, making policy decisions on behalf of approximately 19,000 cities and towns across the nation. Loveridge also served as President of the National League of Cities in 2010.
"I am truly honored to receive the endorsement of former Mayor Ron Loveridge and thank him for his support," said Senator Roth. "I have long admired Mayor Loveridge's commitment to public service and leadership, which transformed not only the City of Riverside but also our entire region. As Senator, I will continue to be a strong voice for our region to ensure Inland Southern California receives its fair share from Sacramento."
Loveridge was first elected to the Riverside City Council in 1979 and was elected Mayor of Riverside in 1993, ultimately becoming the City's longest-serving mayor. He holds a doctorate from Stanford University and currently teaches a course at the University of California, Riverside. Loveridge is also the Director of UC Riverside's Center for Sustainable Suburban Development.
Loveridge's support is the latest in a rapidly growing list of endorsements for General Roth from Riverside County's top education, public safety and community leaders. They include Riverside County District Attorney Michael Hestrin who earlier this month praised General Roth's commitment to keeping Riverside County's families and communities safe, and Riverside County Superintendent of Schools Kenneth M. Young who lauded General Roth as "education's greatest ally."
